PETITION

WHEREAS, Environmental Sensitivities  is a painful, chronic condition and can develop in people of all ages, often following either a single massive exposure or repeated low level exposures to chemicals commonly released into the environment;

WHEREAS, the condition of Environmental Sensitivities may be initiated and its symptoms may be triggered by common chemicals, foods, and medications;

WHEREAS, Environmental Sensitivities symptoms may include acute or chronic neurological problems (balance, strength, memory, thought processes)  and also affect multiple organ systems including musculoskeletal, digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine systems ;

WHEREAS, Environmental Sensitivities can have a profound impact on employment, housing, access to public spaces, personal relationships and economic well being for those who have this condition and their friends and families;

WHEREAS, the Canadian Human Rights Commission recognizes this medical condition as a disability;

WHEREAS, according to the Canadian Community Health Survey 2005, over 170,000 people suffer from Environmental Sensitivities in Québec;

WHEREAS, at present there is no awareness of, or education of this medical condition in Québec;

WHEREAS, the National Assembly of Quebec recognizes a DAY for various illnesses;

We the undersigned request the Minister of Health and Social Services to declare May as the month of awareness and education on Environmental Sensitivities in Québec and to declare May 12 as Environmental Sensitivities Day in Québec.
